Code of Conduct

The PJFC is committed to an environment that promotes tolerance and fairness. The PJFC supports and will enforce the Anti Discrimination and Harassment Policy of YJFL and AFL Victoria. 

The Club expects the following from those involved with the Club:

(a)    COACHES

Abide by the Laws of the Game, Club Rules and League Rules;

Teach the Rules:  rules are mutual agreements that nobody should break;

Group players competitively;

Aim to give all players equal playing time;

Maximise fun:  place winning in perspective;

Stress safety always;

Consider maturity levels:  devise training programs to suit all;

Develop team respect:  for opponents, umpires and coaches;

Recognise the importance of proper injury treatment;

Keep up to date with coaching developments;

Attain relevant coaching accreditation;

Avoid derogatory language, for example based on gender or race; and

Do not engage in aggressive player recruitment.

(b)   PLAYERS

Play by the laws and rules;

Don’t argue;

Control your temper;

Be a team player;

Be a good sport;

Treat all players fairly;

Cooperate with your coach and teammates;

Play for fun and improvement;

Develop team respect:  for opponents, umpires and coaches; and

Do not make derogatory remarks, for example based on race, religion or gender.

(c)    PARENTS

Encourage your children to participate but do not force them;

Teach that honest effort is the victory for which the team strives;

Encourage them to play by the rules;

Never ridicule mistakes or losses;

Remember:  involvement is for their enjoyment – not yours;

Remember:  children learn best by example – applaud both teams;

Recognise positively the contribution of voluntary officials;

Never publicly disagree with officials, raise issues of concern privately;

Support all efforts to remove verbal, racial or physical abuse; and

Support your club officials to foster high standards of behaviour for your Club/League.

Code of Conduct – Dealing with Breaches

The Committee reserves the right to impose any penalty deemed necessary for breaches of the Club’s Code of Conduct.

Upon receipt of a written complaint to a Committee Member from the complainant regarding a potential breach of the Club’s Code of Conduct, the following steps must be followed:

Step 1

The Club President or Secretary contacts the respondent to organise a meeting with 2 or more Committee Members at the Clubrooms as soon as possible after the written complaint is received.

If a resolution to the complaint is not reached to the satisfaction of the Committee go to Step 2.

Step 2

Respondent meets with panel of three Code of Conduct Judiciary Members (made up of people who are independent of the Committee) as soon as possible. The outcome of this meeting together with a recommended course of action from the Code of Conduct Judiciary Members will be presented to the Committee.

The Club President or Secretary will inform the respondent of the outcome and any penalties imposed for breaches of the Code of Conduct as soon as possible.

Failure to comply with penalties imposed for breaches of the Code of Conduct may result in the de-registration of family members from the Club.
